NOPS Silky Repair Hair Shampoo Review

WHAT IS IT: NOPS Silky Repair Hair Shampoo

THE PRODUCT(S):

NOPS Silky Repair Hair Shampoo: Smooth and Soft repair therapy leaves your hair clean and healthy. Damaged hair will be recovered like virgin hair effectively with nutritive ingredient yet light texture. Nops will lead you into the pureness of nature. Synergy effect of plants and organic energy will make your skin healthy and vitalizaing.

Suds decently, and yet easy to wash off. A pleasant scent to the shampoo and surprisingly, it did what it promised, all on the first wash.

Since fans were able to flash the bottle to purchase a NOPS Pink Clay Brightening Mask at S$9.90 and surrender the (empty) shampooo bottle for a free Mizon Active Slim Body Cool Wash, I transferred the remaining shampoo to another re-usable bottle. I'm a slow shampoo user lol

VERDICT: First of all, I didn't washed my hair for a good 3 days before using this shampoo a few weeks back. Of course I showered, I can't stand being sticky and smelling too "woman-ly" without shower for more than a day. As the shampoo stated, "Damaged hair will be recovered like virgin hair effectively with nutritive ingredient yet light texture", it is definitely evident that one must put products like this to the ultimate test. And hence, not only did I not wash my hair for a good 3 days over the period of at least 2-3 weeks, I didn't even comb my hair at all with any types of combs or hairbrush. I only run my fingers through my hair, à la The Little Mermaid, minus the fork, and my hair was securely rolled into a bun high and low. Which thus resulted in really tangled hair.

But most important of all, we cannot forget about the scent!! I fell in love the the sweet and pleasant scent of this NOPS Silky Repair Hair Shampoo. Sure, most shampoos have a particular scent that's representative of their namesake, brand or product name and this is no different. However, I like that I don't feel nauseous from over-sniffing this shampoo at all. The shampoo itself is actually marble-blue in color, and despite using this shampoo on my hair, the scent doesn't overpower at all. It suds well and easy, especially for the hair shampoo method I've mentioned in another post. (Now you know why I still had so much shampoo left despite using this for close to a month already ^^ )

And as stated previously, I didn't wash my hair for 3 days, never combed my hair too except with my fingers and kept my hair tied up in a bun. This is guaranteed to make my hair really messy, tangled and un-manageable to comb, no matter how hard I try. So this time round, I didn't try to comb it out before showering. I just went to shower, wet my hair and sud up the shampoo before applying it to my hair and scalp and let it do the miracle it promised. And remember this one other thing, I have dandruff on and off, so I'm practically doing a "hardcore" test and review on this NOPS Silky Repair Hair Shampoo for the good it promises.

And voila! My hair instantly felt so much smoother after washing my hair with this product. And sure, there's bound to be hair-fall episodes during shower time when hair washing is involved. But, it's not that much to make me squawk in terror nor agony, which I personally like about it. And after showering, I just let my hair dry as per normal and still I didn't comb it at all. And while my hair was drying, it definitely felt smoother, à la virgin hair as it promised on the bottle itself. And when it was almost dry, I instantly tied my hair back into a bun.

So, night went and morning came the next day. And immediately, I let my hair down. And guess what? No combing is needed. My scalp didn't feel as itchy as it was when being plagued with dandruff and despite tying my hair into a bun and sleeping through it the night before, my hair is actually tangle-free, still baby smooth like virgin hair. And for once in my life, I never felt my hair this clean before, until now. Woohoo! And I initially thought that all that promises from an un-assuming bottle of shampoo won't really deliver what it promises. And I was proved wrong. Alas, I must change my perception of un-assuming bravo product(s) like this NOPS Silky Repair Hair Shampoo.

No doubt, I would definitely purchase this shampoo continuously, on and on. Let's just hope Venus Beauty don't stop importing this miracle shampoo, or I'll have to turn somewhere else for a miracle shampoo :/ And for the record, I did not use a hair conditioner nor apply hair oil to my hair before, during and after using this shampoo. It's all from this shampoo, no external hair products needed to make it that astounding.

VERDICT: ✓✓✓

WHAT I THINK: Itch-free, tangle-free, baby smooth hair? This calls for an impromptu shampoo celebration!

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: If you are already a fan of Venus Beauty starting from middle/late August this year, you should have already been able to redeem a free bottle of NOPS Silky Repair Hair Shampoo with a redemption letter brought to their AMK outlet.

Alternatively, you can purchase this bottle of shampoo from all Venus Beauty outlets throughout Singapore for the price of S$15.90. I'd dare say the price is decent for the promises it delivers for my hair. And if you are using the proper hair washing method I've blogged about, this S$15.90 bottle of shampoo can actually last you up to 6-9 months to a full year.

Dermona Herb Essence Review

WHAT IS IT: Dermona Herb Essence

THE PRODUCT(S):

Dermona Herb Essence: A great pore tightening serum that improves skin texture without irritating it - Special pore tightening care - Highly concentreated herbal nutrients. Control serum without irritating skin breathe. Absorb to skin very fast.

This is a yellowish clear-based serum, which a rather watery consistency. Doesn't make your pores feel clogged, and has a pleasant herb scent to it.

VERDICT: Since this product is called Dermona Herb Essence, I was actually expecting a very strong herbal scent to it, almost to the point of feeling or thinking it may be more suitable for ingestion than for surface application. However, this wasn't to be. Upon opening up the sample sachet and taking a sniff out of this so-called "Herb Essence", what struck me was the fact that this product actually has a rather pleasant and sweet herbal-ish scent to it. Looks and names can be deceiving, huh?

As stated on The Sample Store website, this product is actually a pore tightening serum, so the method of using is still what we all know. Apply after cleansing and toning. Which I diligently did so for the past few nights, focusing mainly on the pores on my nose instead. We all are aware of the fact that despite whether we remove our blackheads with a pore pack or manually via a blackhead extractor, the pores on our nose are definitely going to suffer slightly more, as compared to the other facial areas on our skin.

As usual with me, I avoided applying this in the daytime due to me sweating easily in the hot humid Singapore weather. Personally, I like the fact that despite this product looking yellowish, like oil-based serums, it's actually serum. It's smooth, glides onto my skin easily, has a nice and pleasant scent. And on top of that, it doesn't make my skin feels clogged, which ensures my skin can still breathe after layering on so much facial products after shower and before bed.

And best of all? I did not suffer from any skin allergy throughout using this. As it's so gentle, it actually gets absorbed into my skin pretty fast. And I do not recall looking at a very greasy/oily face first thing when I wake up in the morning. And no itchiness was felt as well. Due to the fact that the ingredient list for this Dermona Herb Essence is made almost entirely out of herbs, it doesn't aggravate my pre-existing acne flares too.

However, although The Sample Store website stated that each user can checkout 2 sample sachets of Herb Essence, I only received 1 sachet in my mail. Hence, I really did not see much effect it promised, not especially on my nose. Prior to using this, I actually took the trouble of get rid of as much blackheads as I possibly can on my nose before I used it. And less than 4 days later, I did not see nor feel any pore tightening effects at all. The blackheads are back rather fast, despite this being a pore tightening serum which I applied on my nose diligently.

Essentially, a sample that is too little to actually feel any miracles it promised for my skin and pores specially. Only making my skin feel and look a little refreshed than usual. Luckily, I've only tried the sample version instead of buying an actual retail version, which I heard is rather expensive but doesn't promise. Phew!

VERDICT: ✓✓

WHAT I THINK: Maybe if I got 2 sample sachets as promised on their website, this product may have made a difference somehow.

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: If you are really curious and want to try this before spending money on the real deal, go over to The Sample Store and check this out.

However, do be aware that TSS has increased their postage price from S$2.99 to S$3.99. Which I personally think is rather expensive, if you are checking out 4 tiny sample sachets of products.

Skin79 Super Plus BB Triple Functions Cream Review

WHAT IS IT: Skin79 Super Plus BB Triple Functions Cream

THE PRODUCT(S):

Super BB Cream Skin79: Light weight BB Cream readily absorbs to skin, hydrating to reveal a healthy, fresh and natural looking hint of color. With added sunscreen, the formula protects from the sun's UV rays SPF25/PA+++, while promoting whitening, wrinkle care and sebum control effects. 10-in-1 One Step Solution for Multiple Concerns.

Before applying Skin79 Super Plus BB Triple Functions Cream.

1 hour after applying Skin79 Super Plus BB Triple Functions Cream, while waiting for my hair to dry out from showering.

VERDICT: My apologies for posting this review a little late due to Photobucket not working for me yesterday. And also another apology for posting this Skin79 Super Plus BB Triple Functions Cream just as late too, as I was still testing out other BB Creams. I know, I'm such a slow-poke sometimes. But why rush and compromise the quality of the review, right? We must all learn how to chill and relax once in a while, so that we may cover even longer distances. But back to the actual review now~

First of all, this BB Cream actually has a light powdery scent to it. You can actually compare the scent to foundation powder as the scent is rather similar. And the color upon squeezing out of the sample sachet is actually a dark beige/beige-gray color tone and I was starting to think it might not be the right color-type for my skin tone. Especially knowing how "ghostly" I look in the morning, wouldn't it make my skin tone look a little forcibly natural/healthy looking while the rest of my skin tone looks somewhat "half-dead"? (Half-dead needn't literally meant it as it is, it can also be simply used to describe looking half-asleep, which accounts for sallow skin, etc).

But upon applying this on my face, I was instantly surprised to find myself mistaken a little. Sure, the color of the BB Cream doesn't seemingly look close to my skin tone, but as soon as it was applied, it actually does match my skin tone really close. It's asmooth and creamy texture with a whipped cream-esque consistency, with a light-weight powder-y scent. It glides on really well and minutes after application, my skin does look a little much more healthier than usual. It doesn't make my skin tone look forcibly healthy with the usual healthy glow, or it'll probably look really weird to look healthy and glowing on my face while my limbs and neck looks pale. But then, I can't really agree with the different skin tones on my face and jawline, there's still a visible color difference after all. Had to apply past the jawline and close to my hairline near my neck to ensure my entire face looks even.

And as touted on Skin79's website, this particular Skin79 Super Plus BB Triple Functions Cream is more for oily/combination skin due to the fact that it leaves our oily/combination skin looking matte and controlling facial sebum. I found this BB Cream doesn't really feel like it's clogging my pores at all, which I think is a miracle. Considering that most BB Creams claims to not clog any pores, but feel pore-clogging nonetheless. It really does help to keep my oily skin looking matte for a couple of hours, roughly 3-5 hours maximum before it slowly starts to wear off and certain parts of my face started looking a mixture of matte and oily at the same time.

I don't particularly feel the need to re-apply another layer of this BB Cream despite looking half matte and half oily 3-5 hours later. Just pat the excess sebum away with a piece of absorption paper, or 2 pieces if you need that much, and I'm good to carry on with what I am doing. And we all know how enlarged pores looks like, especially on our nose where the blackhead gathers, I like that the pores on my nose doesn't seem that obvious, unless you're standing right smack in front of me. (Oh god, go back!! >.<) However, towards the end of the day, I did noticed that this BB Cream seems to start melting away from my skin without my noticing. Oh well, this means I don't need to wash my face too long to get rid of the BB Cream at night then.

Basically, this Skin79 BB Cream is a Korean brand by default, hence their range is probably more suitable for someone with a fair-based skin tone/complexion. If your skin tone is more towards tan to dark, you might want to ask or try samples available to ensure it looks natural on you. And did I mentioned I once saw this Chinese lady at my ex-work place with ultra whitish facial make-up (complete with really blue eye shadow and blood-red lipstick) while the rest of her neck, arms, thighs and legs looks really really tanned. First thing I thought of was "Monkey Butt". I know it's rude to use that term, but still, she should use a foundation powder more close to her current skin color instead of trying to look like she has milky white skin. Sorry, it did not. And it didn't help that she was wearing a sleeveless top and a short skirt, to accentuate her dark skin tone with pale-whitish facial makeup. Ghastly!

VERDICT: ✓✓

WHAT I THINK: It's close to my face/skin color, but it's a different story when my jawline is involved.

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: I got this sample from the August Edition of Vanity Trove's Rocket Science Beauty. And I'm still miffed at what I am supposed to do with the sanitary pad sample I got in there. Nobody I know seems to want it..

Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate Review

WHAT IS IT: Lancôme Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate

THE PRODUCT(S):

Lancôme Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate: Lancôme introduces Génifique - our serum that intensely hydrates and promotes skin's natural exfoliation, a characteristic of young skin.

Visibly younger skin in just 7 days. Skin looks as if lit from within – breathtaking radiant. Its youthful quality returns: cushiony soft and velvety to the touch. Drop by drop, skin is vibrant with youth, its tone becomes astonishingly even, its texture dramatically refined.

I like how it made my eye bags look less significant. Normally, my eye bags are the first thing I see in the mirror whenever I wake up in the morning. Now, I don't even need to be bothered as it's much less obvious now.

VERDICT: The scent of this Lancome Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate is rather faint, which I personally think is good. Since I use youth concentrates like this mainly more for my eye bags and eye area than the whole face. Whether a product is meant for the eye bags or for the entire area, it's best not to have any scent to it, in the event our skin around the eyes might be allergic. Just because one is immune to scented facial moisturizers doesn't mean the skin around our eyes may be the same, always remember that.

The youth activating concentrate is actually gel-based with a watery consistency, which actually allows better absorption into the skin area around my eyes. For that, I am really grateful. Despite the little known fact that the skin around our eyes are probably the thinnest as compared to the skin on our face, we still need serums that can actually penetrate and gets absorbed fast and easily too. Fortunately, I didn't had any so-called "sticky" after-feel, maybe it's because of my oily skin? And I personally is a sucker for non-sticky feelings and sensations when it comes to facial and eye products.

I like how this concentrate actually helps smooth out the skin area on my eye bags, and after using it as a eye serum, I'm happy that skin around my eyes doesn't look so much like a panda now. Before that, it's just that little step from panda-wannabe to full panda. All without the use of facial cosmetics to get that panda look. And I haven't even mentioned the days when I was still in primary school, those were the worst as I look back on old photographs and got a shock at what I saw. I was only under 12 years old, but damn, those eye bags were even more prominent than any celebrities you've seen. Not lying, it's just plain scary whenever I look back at those old photographs. Gahh!

Although thankfully, those troublesome puffy eyes and eye bags seemed to look less puffy, but nonetheless, it's still there. And it's not like sleeping up to 10 hours per day may actually help at all. Once it shows up, it takes great efforts to get rid of it. Puffy eyes and eye bags can almost be compared to blemish scars. It takes way too long for it to turn faint before going away. Only to suddenly resurface back without warning, despite you yourself knowing that you've done whatever you can to ensure it stays away.

Nonetheless, the overall result was exactly what I was looking for in eye serums, to be honest. Generally, I prefer using facial moisturizers and serums at night, preferably after showering or before going to bed. And it has been a couple of nights since I started using this as an eye serum. I wouldn't dare to say my eye area glow after using this, as I think it's a little creepy to have the skin around my eyes glow healthily. However, what I do like is that the puffiness is actually almost gone. Skin does look firmer and more supple than before, and that is what I am looking for in an eye serum. I have tried my mother's eye serums when I was younger, but most of them don't work. Maybe it's not suitable for a teenager's skin, that I cannot be sure. But now, it does work some benefits for me which I am glad and happy about.

And luckily for me, no breakouts on the skin area around my eyes. Yippe!

VERDICT: ✓✓✓

WHAT I THINK: Panda no more!!

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: Sadly, I redeemed this in early July this year when this blog was still new. So, I am not so sure if they still have anymore samples for this Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate. However, if there's any Lancome near your neighborhood, you can try asking if they still have samples for you to try.

Samples Received/Redeemed: 19 Nov - 24 Nov 2012

So, another week of samples received and redeemed, freebies won and gift voucher spent. Another sad week to say the least, since I have only 3 goodies to show here. But at the end, it's better than having nothing to show huh? Without further ado, here's the freebies/goodies for the past week.

Despite many people joining this Welcome Giveaway lucky draw organised by Erabelle Singapore, I'm just glad my name was one of the chosen for a Erabelle Long-Lasting Brown Pencil.

Arrived at Vivo City rather early, so I did my usual "I-wander-around-like-a-lost-soul" thing. Lurked near Erabelle, only to see 4-6 people crowding around a table having a discussion. Thinking that they may be having a meeting, I proceed to wander around some more, finally had it and approached the Information Desk and inquire about Erabelle's opening hours. Turns out, there were staffs actually manning the front counter inside Erabelle lol

The lady who served me was very matronly and friendly at the same time, and kudos to their uniform too as it's actually a kimono. Pretty! Initially I wanted the black one, but after she tested out the colors on my hand, I realized black was too dark while gray seemed even darker. The staff agreed too, so I settled for brown instead. And this brown pencil costs S$34.24 in retail prize (o_O) Just glad I got it for free instead of having to buy one.

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: If you are on my friend list, you would have had the app spammed by me on your wall. But nonetheless, I think I might have posted it on my Facebook page as well. And for those of you beautiful ladies (and men who joined to get one for your wife, girlfriend or female siblings), you might want to check your email inbox and see if you are one of the lucky 100 who won too.

In my previous Samples Received/Redeemed post, I've stated that I got a S$5 Watsons voucher, courtesy of a survey prize awarded by Pfizer Singapore. Knowing that I was going to Vivo City to redeem my Erabelle Brow Pencil, I figured I could stake out the Watsons there as I am pretty sure they should stock My Scheming masks. Glad I brought the voucher along to offset my mask by S$5.

Although kinda sucky that Pfizer Singapore took so long to mail my voucher out, or I could have bought my mask at an even cheaper prize. But still, better than no voucher, I reckon.

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: Go over to http://smusg.asia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3JBlvVs79N86H9X, and fill in a survey. It takes around 5 minutes, I took just slightly longer since there are questions asked about some YouTube video ads. And I don't think the free voucher will be forever, so hurry!!

Previously, I joined the "Make A Gingerbread Man" app by The Body Shop and I didn't realized that they would send another email to me informing me that the surprise gift voucher would be ready for collection. And stupidly, I thought the first email was meant for redemption. And hence, made my way down to the Ion Orchard outlet to redeem it.

The staffs are rather ignorant and haughty actually. Their outlet entrance was wide opened and seeing that there wasn't any shutter pulled half way down nor was there any sort of barricade at the entrance, I presumed their outlet was opened and went in to redeem my surprise gift voucher.

The staff nearest to the entrance told me that their outlet opens at 10:30am. And seeing that my time was already 10:35am, I asked them if they said they opened at 10:30am cos it's already 10:35. They stopped whatever they were doing and all of them looked at me like I was some sort of freak show. Obviously, they are ignorant of their own company rules and policy.

In which I duly made a feedback on The Body Shop Facebook page. It wouldn't hurt nor kill them to just kindly inform me that they do not have the vouchers ready for collection yet or even anything. So unhelpful, despite me writing so many reviews on how good their products are. I think ungrateful is a better description..

And I finally got them to allow me to redeem my gift card at Bukit Panjang Plaza instead as the staffs at the BPJ outlet are much more friendlier and down-to-earth. As usual, my favorite store manager there was a little blur lol Until her staff (a sweet Indian girl) remembered and asked if I was the one who feedback about the Ion Orchard outlet. So, I just told them what happened exactly, as you all had read about in the previous paragrpah.

And the store manager and the sweet Indian girl's response? The same as me, appalled! Store manager said that the Ion Orchard outlet staffs should stopped or dropped whatever they were doing and attend to the customer, in which case, me. While the sweet Indian girl actually asked me to retort back to the Ion Orchard outlet staffs exactly what time is their clock?

Glad to know there are friendly, sweet and understanding TBS staffs who actually feel and sympathized for their customers. Can't say the same for the Ion Orchard outlet one. If you don't believe I have friendly relationship with the BPJ outlet staffs, go to the nearest or favorite outlet of your choice and ask your preferred staff if they had to do a Gangnam Style dance at the end of their Dinner and Dance ;-)

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: Go over to The Body Shop Singapore Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TheBodyShopSingapore/app_278317458951524, and Like their page in order to access the app. Next, register your particulars and once done, you may proceed to decorate your own Gingerbread Man.

Whether you did a good or bad job at it, you will still be eligible to receive/redeem a Surprise Gift Card. I would suggest avoiding redeeming from the Ion Orchard outlet since their staffs aren't that friendly and seemed rather ignorant about their own company rules, policy and the time their outlet is supposed to open.

TIP: People tend to cheat at all the apps that TBS came up with. As with the previous Tea Tree Power app, I think 3rd place winner cheated cos he/she went from 90+ votes to 1600 votes in under 24 hours. Either they have really dedicated friends who want them to win so badly or as we all know it, kept making extra accounts to vote for themselves. Whereas bloggers like Charlotte from MFP didn't even get to one of the top 3 spots at all, despite her review being one of the best ones out there. No doubt those with 400+ votes and more probably cheated as well, I'm just saying. So, my advice is not to focus on trying to win. Too much anguish. Just do the app and get your free Surprise Gift Card.

This is from Montagne Jeunesse.

As mentioned in another one of my previous Samples Received/Redeemed post, I've posted up the sample redemption link for the Montagne Jeunesse sample redemption. Since I wasn't sure if the redemption is still available, I got a friend to redeem it and he filled in my mailing address instead. This time round, I got the Deep Sea Mud Pac mask instead. And luckily, I think they didn't saved our email address. So, he got another one for himself, but with his mother's name lol

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: Go over to Montagne Jeunesse Singapore Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MJSingapore, Like their page. Next, click on the Free Sample link and follow the prompts. After that, sit back and wait for the sample to be mailed to you.

I'm rather tempted to try a 2nd round and see if they mailed me a green one instead xD

NuTeen Acne Away Gel Review

WHAT IS IT: NuTeen Acne Away Gel

THE PRODUCT(S):

NuTeen Acne Away Gel: Enriched with natural herbal ingredients, Nuteen Acne Away Gel is an effective solution to cure pimples. Few minutes after application, you will notice that the pimples are visibly contracted and reduced in redness. It provides anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to clear pimples within a few days. Use continuously for a week to lighten pimple scars. Apply 3-4 times daily to the affected areas for quicker healing.

Looks yellowish-brownish. Can't really exactly say what it's supposed to look like. And the smell.. Urgh..

VERDICT: If you are someone who have acne popping up on your face on a regular basis, you would agree with me that we are a dedicated bunch of people who hunt, scourge and look for acne-related products. Specifically the ones that we can use on those irritating pimples to make them go away and never return for good. Most times, products that we found, used and presumed to be effective only works for a short while. Before our old acne problems suddenly came back much more worse than before. While there are some products that when applied to your pimples, doesn't really exactly knows what to do.

And along comes this NuTeen Acne Away Gel by Bioessence. The product packaging claimed that it can contract and dry pimples effectively, reduce pimples within a few days, provide anti-bacterial functions and help lighten pimple scars as it is enriched with Thanakha extract. In short, Thanakha extract is:

Thanakha (“Limonia acidissima (Roxb)”) is a tree that grows in Sri Lanka, the southern and western parts of India, the north-western part of the Himalayas and in Myanmar. The Thanakha is also a very useful plant and it plays a great part in the field of Myanmar indigenous medicine - the leaves are used as a remedy for epilepsy in some regions and the cosmetic form cures pimples and acne. The hard yellowish sweet smelling Thanakha wood is also used to make handicrafts such as combs and boxes and many other products.

Source: The Wonderful Thanakha Tree

The scent feels kinda wrong to me in this acne gel, almost sweet and overpowering for instance. And did I ever mentioned how to tell if a pontianak is near you? Sweet and overpowering smell means she's far, while rotting and obnoxious meant she's behind you. But well, enough of the paranormal similarities here. One whiff of this NuTeen Acne Away Gel and I was like, trying not to let the scent affect me in a nauseous way. As it's my first time trying the sample version, I thought that some products may not smell great or even decent, what's most important is that it does miracles as promised.

Which unfortunately didn't really do much. Sure it did reduce the redness of my pimple, which I cannot deny. However, it's been a good 4 days since I last used it, right after I somewhat burst the pimple and got rid of the pus. However, the redness despite being lessen is still on my chin. The consistency of the acne gel looks more cream-based than gel-based, and because I am using a sample sachet, it's rather hard to dab a little out with my fingers (which are clean!). Trying to dab a little ended up with a huge glob coming off and resting on my finger.

And along the way, I had some old blemish scars on my face which is thankfully isn't a lot. So, I applied this gel on my blemish scars on top of the pre-existing acne on my chin. And my blemish scar doesn't look brightened at all, despite the instructions stating that it's best to apply 3-4 times daily. I've been applying this exactly 4 times a day (morning, afternoon, evening and before I sleep) for 4 days straight. This makes it exactly 12 times I've dabbed this gel on my acne and blemish scars, but no results at all.

I know how I've always said that most products need to be used for at least 6-8 weeks to 3 months in order to see the overall effect. But at the same time, most products should also be able to show slight results after at least close to 1 week's usage. In this way, consumers will actually put down cold hard cash to buy it. In this case, reduces redness and visibly contracts pimples. No doubt, the redness on my pimple did lessen and it looks less angry now. However, it's didn't exactly contract it cos I squeezed out the pus myself personally. In other words, I manually contract the size of my pimple with my own hands, not with this product.

And don't forget the product claimed that it heals pimples within a few days, in which case, we can actually forgo the "used for at least 6-8 weeks to 3 months in order to see the overall effect" concept here. And nope, it didn't reduce any existing pimple at all. Nope!

VERDICT: ✓✓

WHAT I THINK: At least it did helped to reduce the redness of my pimple, hence 2 ticks for it. However, the pimple is still waving at me from my chin when I look in the mirror and my blemish scars are probably doing the kallang wave..

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: I previously redeemed this from The Sample Store when their checkout price for 4 items costs only S$2.99. (They've increased it to S$3.99 now) If you are really keen to try this out, you can redeem this via TSS through my referral link at http://www.thesamplestore.sg/r/27890.

However, I don't really think this product is really that effective at all. But it's still up to you :)

Biotherm: Aquasource 24h* Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel [Part 3] Review

WHAT IS IT: Biotherm Aquasource 24h Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel

THE PRODUCT(S):

Biotherm Aquasource 24h Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel: Biotherm AQUASOURCE 24h Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel contains Mannose, an innovative ingredient that goes 5 layers deep for skin hydration. It rapidly has intense hydrating virtue. Each container contains as much ingredients as those contained in 5,000 litres of Thermal Plankton Cellular Water. It instantly and continuously replenishes skin with moisture right into the core of the skin's epidermal layers, leaving the skin hydrated for up to 24 hours, with a healthy radiance, and feeling plump and silky.

This product immediately penetrates the skin, without leaving a greasy film. Besides, it is formulated with cooling ingredients to instantly decrease the temperature of the skin by 2°C. It refreshes, stimulates, and relieves skin irritation caused by dryness.

The scent is strong, but it doesn't put you off. And the concoction is actually a very light bluish-opaque gel.

VERDICT: The scent for this Biotherm Aquasource 24h Deep Hydration Replenishing Gel is rather strong, but thankfully, it doesn't border on nauseousness. It's actually rather refreshing and since it's a 24 hour hydrating gel, it's expected to smell a little "aqua-y". The texture is actually smooth and gentle, although it does take a few more rubs to be fully penetrated and absorbed into my skin. And once applied on my skin, there's a light scent to it, as opposed to the actual strong scent prior to usage.

As this product is best for Normal to Combination skin types, I'm sure the penetration and absorption should be slightly better as composed to someone with a semi-oily or oily skin type. I personally like the fact that the gel is cool, when applied on the skin. No doubt, the cooling sensation will be better if this gel is actually stored in the chiller compartment for long-term. The consistency and texture when using is actually just right. It isn't too watery that you are unable to scoop anything out. And yet neither too thick, even for Normal to Combination skin types too. Although the sucky part is whether the actual retail version comes with a spatula or not?

While on the other hand, I thought the overbearing scent was a tad too unnecessary. Maybe it's because of the fact that this is a hydrating gel, which could be the issue. But personally in my opinion, there's no need to go overboard on the scent/fragrance if the product is a winning formula. Possibly, Biotherm may have expected consumers to literally sniff this gel prior to usage, every single time so as to give the impression that it is a good hydrating product for our skin.

And despite being touted as a 24 hour deep hydrating replenishing gel, the so-called hydration effect actually only lasts for a really short while. Or as far as the naked eye can observe. When I applied it to my skin in front of a mirror, I did see my skin looking somewhat more moisturized and hydrated. But less than 4 hours into the evening, my skin was back to looking the same as it previously did before. It's as if the product, upon application, just hydrated the surface of my skin. Never once working itself all the way down beyond the epidermis. As stated on the product packaging, the hydration is 5 layers deep, but I feel the hydration on the surface only.

Although the good part is that, after a few days (and nights) of constantly using this, I am pretty glad to announce that the newly developed acne on my chin area actually subsided. (They just love to pop up on my chin nowadays...) Which I personally think is weird through and through. My forehead still looks dry somewhat, but apparently, this is good for "chilling" my acne. Just plain weird in the way this product actually works for certain areas of my skin. Either it is undecided whether to hydrate my skin or it is bent on helping me resolve the acne issue currently subsiding. And I didn't have any after side-effects from using this. On a whole, if this comes in a tube version, I may consider getting it to deal with my acne. But I won'y buy a big jar version to use as a nightly facial moisturizer.

VERDICT: ✓✓

WHAT I THINK: Doesn't really hydrate on a whole, but yet is able to chill my acne to the size of a mosquito bite (o_O)"

Biotherm: Aquasource Instant Hydration Toning Lotion [Part 2] Review

WHAT IS IT: Biotherm: Aquasource Instant Hydration Toning Lotion

THE PRODUCT(S):

Biotherm: Aquasource Instant Hydration Toning Lotion: Biotherm Aquasource Instant Hydration Toning Lotion treats skin to moisturising agents in the form of mannose and aquatoril, plus rich minerals in thermal plankton cellular water. It is enriched with AquatorilTM interacts with prepared skin, priming the skin for Aquasource with instant hydration. This rich, active water rebalances and moisturizes the skin by replenishing nutrients due to cleansing with water. Skin instantly feels supple and toned, and is well-prepared to receive the full benefits of the next step.

The scent is lightweight without being overly-strong, giving an instant clear and refreshed looking skin.

VERDICT: Considering that I only got 2 sample sachets, with 1 sachet enough for 1 time use, it's rather hard to judge/gauge from 2 days worth of usage if this is a good product for long-term use. The scent isn't that pungent nor strong, it slowly dissipates after applying to your face with a cotton pad. It actually reminds me of "cleanliness", rather weird feeling and vibe to be getting from a toner actually. However, just barely after applying this Biotherm Aquasource Instant Hydration Toning Lotion, my face started feeling rather itchy and it has been non-stop scratching to get rid of the itchiness.

And despite washing off the toner off my face with my regular favorite facial cleanser, the itchiness is still there. Although less, but the sensation of itchiness still lingers on. My face doesn't really feel supple partly because of the itching and scratching, I probably should wear a children's size mitten to avoid over-scratching my face. Like those baby mittens, but for children's usage since my hands aren't that huge.

This particular range is supposedly known for it's hydrating purposes, but I do know that my face/skin doesn't feel any sort of hydration at all. Honestly? It just made my skin feels squeaky clean and refreshed, looks rather matte. Despite seemingly soothing on my face when I first applied it on, that soothing-ness slowly gives away to a bout of itching. And I thought it could be affected by the weather and humidity and considering the fact that I can still use this for another day, tried it once more. And sad to say, the itchiness came back as usual, just exactly like what I mentioned in the previous paragraph.

There's also this sticky sensation after applying this toning lotion, but the stickiness doesn't last that long, which I am gratefully thankful for. Imagine a sticky face with a prolonged itchy effect, you would probably be able to imagine a squinting emo-like baby facial contortion going on with me right now. Yeck!

But overall. I do like the smooth feeling I get on my face. Which unfortunately gets marred by the excessive itching. It's a shame that the toner doesn't really do much good at all, considering that it would have become a rather good and decent toning lotion touted for it's hydrating purposes and promises. *scratches face*

VERDICT:

WHAT I THINK: *too busy with facial scratching to comment*

Biotherm: Biosource Tonifying Exfoliating Cleansing Gel [Part 1] Review

WHAT IS IT: Biotherm's Biosource Tonifying Exfoliating Cleansing Gel

THE PRODUCT(S):

Biosource Tonifying Exfoliating Cleansing Gel: With a crystal-clear gel texture containing exfoliating micro-beads. Helps mildly slough away dead skin cells & prepare skin for hydration. Formulated with balancing Zinc to promote skin regeneration. Combats free radicals responsible for premature skin aging. Leaves skin clear & revitalized. Perfect for normal & combination skin.

It suds rather well, but the micro-beads are so tiny and small I don't feel any exfoliation on my face at all. And the scent is rather strong, so I was expecting it to be better, in terms of exfoliating wise.

VERDICT: First and foremost, upon opening up my 2 sample sachets and transferring them to reusable pots, the scent wasn't strong initially. It only seems that way when you are close enough to sniff it. However, the good part is that the scent of this Tonifying Exfoliating Cleansing Gel doesn't turn you off nor make you feel nauseous after a while, which is good news. And also upon closer inspection, I can see that there are really tiny and minuscule micro-beads, which are meant for facial exfoliation purposes.

However, that's where this product goes rather wrong from here. Despite the fact that the scent could be addicting to some, it suds well and is an exfoliating cleanser, I kinda find a few disappointments with it. Namely the exfoliating part. No matter how big or small the micro-beads are, one should be able to at least somehow feel the micro-beads working on your face upon using it. But not with this, it just feels as if it's a normal facial cleanser gel that I can buy anywhere. Luckily, I am trying out the sample sachets instead of buying the actual retail size, or I would be genuinely upset to realize that there's not much "exfoliating" at all.

Not saying that the micro-beads in facial exfoliating cleansers should be huge like rice-balls. I understand that smaller micro-beads meant that our face will be exfoliated gently without hurting our skin, however, the micro-beads in this Biosource Tonifying Exfoliating Cleansing Gel are really so tiny that personally, I don't really feel nor see the effects of facial exfoliating at all. Not even after 2 washes. It's almost like, the existence of the micro-beads in this facial gel is just for show

Despite it being suitable for Normal/Combination Skin, I find that it still suits skin that aren't too oily too. Despite not having an exfoliating witnessed on my skin, what I do like about this Tonifying Exfoliating Cleansing Gel is that it cleans rather well, suds decently and washed off easily too. And after usage, I can see my skin looking and feeling cleaned and refreshed instantly. Besides, my face doesn't look oily nor greasy despite hours after using this to cleanse my face. I t actually does get rid of excess sebum without making my face/skin feels over-drying not over-taut at all.

What I personally find to be a shame is that the samples given were just a tad too few. Even if Biotherm is stingy and doesn't feel like giving out a full weeks trial, they should consider letting interested fans redeemed half a week's trial. I have only 2 sachets of the exfoliating cleanser, in which case, 1 sachet is good for exactly 1 day's usage. The toner samples are pretty much the same too, 1 sachte exactly for 1 day's usage too. However, 1 sample sachet of the facial moisturizer a.k.a facial getl is enough to last 2-3 days, if applied in a very thin layer. Which I think is rather contradicting, considering not all of our faces are as long as Sarah Jessica Parker. Therefore we do not need that much gel, as compared to the paltry amount for the cleanser and toner.

VERDICT:

WHAT I THINK: For the price of 1 tube of Biosource Tonifying Exfoliating Cleansing Gel, I can probably buy another better exfoliating cleanser at the same price, or even 2 T-Zone Exfoliating Daily Wash for the same price with better exfoliating results.

Biotherm Aquasource Nuit Review

WHAT IS IT: Biotherm Aquasource Nuit

THE PRODUCT(S):

Biotherm Aquasource Nuit: Biotherm laboratories have fused P. Antarctica extract along with Aquasource's two powerful active ingredients, Mannose and Pure Thermal Plankton. Together, they act deep within the epidermis and on the skin surface in Aquasource Nuit for deep, lasting hydration and an overall healthy looking complexion.

Aquasource Nuit comes in a unique gel-turns-balm formation. Biotherm's biologists employed a unique technology to obtain micro-droplets 10 to 20 times smaller than those of classical emulsions to help absorption. Therefore, Aquasource Nuit's fresh, non-sticky, non-shiny, non-greasy gel breaks into water upon application on skin to deliver hydrating and nourishing ingredients evenly across the skin's surface and into it's deepest layers.

I like the "aqua" scent and the fact that despite looking like a gel, it gets absorbed into my skin almost instantly. Giving my skin this hydrated look and a soothing feel to it.

VERDICT: For the past few years, I've used enough facial products which claimed or have the word "Aqua" used and almost all of them doesn't have the "aqua" feel or scent to accompany the name and product packaging at all. Until I came across this Aquasource Nuit (a.k.a Aquasource Night) by Biotherm. I like the fact that on the first whiff of this product, I instantly have this "aqua" feeling and vibe it gives me. In fact, it smelled so wonderful without being overpowering and of the fact that I am holding on to a sample tube, I've been using this as thin a layer as I possibly can each night, just to make it last longer.

As a fact, we all are aware that we should invest in a good night facial moisturizer. Why? Skin cells do their repair work most effectively at night, skin and cell regeneration almost doubles at night too, peaking between 11:00pm and 04:00am. Knowing this much now, wouldn't it be skimping not to use this important knowledge for your skin’s advantage? A good facial moisturize before bedtime will prevent your skin’s drying out at night, attracting moisture and preventing water from leaving the skin. At night the active ingredients in your nourishing facial moisturizer will be spared the damage they incur in the sun, and will be delivered more efficiently to your skin cells, thanks to your nighttime higher skin temperature and increased absorbency.

And we all also know for a fact that most facial moisturizers for night use tend to be a little heavy and too rich for our skin. Thus, we tend to find reasons to skip using a facial moisturizer before bedtime. I don't blame you, as this happens to me a lot more than often. What I like about this Aquasource Nuit is that it actually absorbs really fast and quick into my skin, the instant I applied it on. And upon contact with my skin, this gel-jelly like substance instantly dissolves, allowing faster penetration. And right after applying this on my face, the skin already looks more hydrated than I could possibly dream of.

Whether you have normal, combination, oily or sensitive skin, I'm sure this facial moisturizer would be just perfect for you to use, considering that it's smooth, gentle, glides on effortlessly and hydrates immediately. And since I have oily skin, my skin is definitely loving this applied without fail every night. And despite hours and throughout the night, I woke up the next morning without having to see an oily and greasy looking face staring back at me in the mirror. Yippee!

My face never looked more soft and supple, when I starting using facial moisturizers at night. And this puts me off to the point that I dread using stuffs like these before I go to bed. I tend to put on facial moisturizers meant for night-use right after I came out of the shower, partly for easy absorption so the residue won't get smeared all over my pillow and bed-sheets. But with this Aquasource Nuit, I really don't see the old issue of moisturizing my pillow and bed-sheets more than my face now. In fact, I just can't wait for night to come so I can apply this before bedtime.

VERDICT: ✓✓✓

WHAT I THINK: If I had any inkling this would be so wonderful, I would have used the same SMS and hopped all over Orchard Road and redeem it from every Biotherm counter I can find :x

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: First, go over to http://www.biothermsg.com/jul2012/femme.php. Next, click on the Get A Sample link. After that, fill in your Name, Mobile Number and Email Address. If all goes well, you should get a SMS on your mobile phone almost instantly. Just flash the SMS at any Biotherm counters throughout Singapore to redeem a 5ml sample.

The good part is that, you just need to flash this sms to redeem sample(s), instead of having to fill in your particulars. So, if you are redeeming it not only for yourself, but for friends, family members as well. You can actually used the same SMS and hopped throughout Orchard Road and redeem it repeatedly :P

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream Review

WHAT IS IT: Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream

THE PRODUCT(S):

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream: Enriched with premium Green Tea, Ginseng, Chinese Angelica and Hyaluronic Acid, Green Tea Nude Cover BB cream provides the benefits of blemish free concealing, sun block effects, whitening, moisturizing and reduction of lines, providing a long lasting smooth and ultra light feel to nourish and perfect your skin. This beauty secret to natural beauty is definitely worth sharing!

Before applying Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream.

After applying Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream.

VERDICT: First and foremost of all, this product is called Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream, so I was expecting a little hint of green tea scent in it. However, there is no green tea scent at all. What I smelled was instead a very lightweight floral scent that thankfully doesn't make me feel nauseous at all. The bad part about this BB Cream is that it only comes in 1 shade that is supposedly a universal for all skin colors, whether you are fair, pale as a ghost, a tanned goddess, or whichever skin color suits you now. And I personally think it's a big No No when it comes to BB Cream. Personally, I just cannot fathom someone with a darker skin-tone suddenly looking all fair and bright on the face, while looking tanned or dark on the rest of her body. Spooky..

Despite this BB Cream gliding onto my skin very smoothly as it's of a thick but runny consistency, it seemed a shade too dark for my actual skin-tone as a check in the mirror revealed my face looking at least a shade darker while from my jawline to my neck, I still look ghastly pale as usual. Therefore, if I want a really even skintone all over, I would have to apply this on my jawline, neck/throat area as well. Which is also another big No No for me personally too. Imagine how fast I would run through a tube/bottle/pot of BB Cream if I have to doll my neck too.

Like most BB Creams out in the market, this Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream promises:

  • Natural and flawless coverage for all skin tones
  • Non greasy formula that provides natural matte finish
  • Spread with nano fine texture, resulting in even tone and natural look
  • Supply essential nutrients to revitalize skin, resulting in visibly fairer and more radiant skin
  • Provide all day hydration for soft, supple skin
  • Provide SPF 30/PA+++ to protect skin against UV rays and harmful free radicals
  • Help reduce the formation of lines

Personally for me, I have to disagree with mostly all of the above. First of all, this product is manufactured and produced for users with at least close to fair skin tone with yellow-ish undertones, in other words, the Asian market as it matches our skin-tone much better than it does on a Caucasian skin-tone that is either within the range of fair, olive, tanned, to quote for example. In short, this isn't a real natural and flawless coverage for all skin tones. Any good company that sells BB Cream will actually take the trouble to manufacture BB Creams that anyone with any type of skin-tone in different shades can use, not just one shade.

Despite the fact that it touts itself as a non greasy formula that provides matte finish, I still seem to feel that this BB Cream looks slightly glossy on my skin from time to time. It's definitely only matte as soon as you apply it, but the "matte-ness" dissipates rather fast, so you will need powder to set it as well. It's not even tone and natural looking, as currently I have 2 different skin tones, 1 on my face and the other around my jaw-line/neck area. And also because I am ghastly pale at times, it didn't make me look fairer. It just looks natural if I look at myself straight in the area, whereas tilting my head at an angle proves that it isn't natural for me at all.

For the part on soft supple skin, read this carefully. If you are someone like me who mostly depend only on BB Creams to hide facial imperfections such as acne blemishes and scars without the use of powder, there will be this sticky sensation on your face that takes a while to dissipates. Soft and supple skin should feel soft and supple, not sticky with a hint of something at all. Ultimately, I think it's a shame that this product can be so much better if it were to stick to what it promises.

VERDICT: ✓✓

WHAT I THINK: I should have just apply this on one half of my face and pretend I am Two-Face a.k.a Harvey Dent from Batman..

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: This sample was available in the previous issue of Feeling magazine, exclusively sold at all Guardian outlets throughout Singapore. Unless you are able to procure the previous copy for the sample, I personally would suggest to give this BB Cream a miss. It's only in 1 shade that claims to work on all skin tones, but it's not the case.

Samples Received/Redeemed: 12 Nov - 17 Nov 2012

And now, for the latest samples I've received and redeemed for the past week. Also a slow week, but compared to the previous week, it's slightly better. And man, I look horrible in the photo taken when I showed up to redeem my free Benta Berry G-1 Exfoliating Cleanser. Ack!

I always love to see this envelope inside my mail box ♥♥♥

If you are a fan of my Facebook page at Pu Niao's Product Reviews, you would be aware that Hada Labo has released another sample for redemption. I received:
  • Hada Labo Arbutin Whitening Lotion (20ml) x 1
  • Hada Labo Cleansing Oil with High Purity Olive Oil (3ml) x 1

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: Go to Hada Labo Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/hadalabosg, Like their page. Next, click on the link that says Free Sample!. Fill in your details and wait for the sample to arrive in your mailbox.

(The Free Lotion! link lets you redeem a sample/travel size Hada Labo SHA Hydrating Lotion, so be wide-eye alert when clicking)

Was waiting so long for this voucher to reach me. I kinda saw an ad for this while on a Facebook app games rampage, and did the survey. Took around 2-3 weeks to see this in my mailbox, I wonder what should I buy? Hmm..

Well, I was hesitating whether I should go all the way down to Orchard to get this. Finally, after close to 2 weeks agonising, I went and redeem it. It wasn't that hard to find the place either, which is good in the end.

This Benta Berry G-1 Exfoliating Facial Cleanser (30ml) is meant to be used once to twice weekly. But the lady (a.k.a the receptionist) told me otherwise by mistake:

Receptionist: This is best used once or twice daily.
Me: -looks at packaging and saw exfoliating cleanser-
Me: So it's a daily exfoliating cleanser?
Receptionist: No, you use it once or twice daily.
Me: So, it's not a daily exfoliating cleanser?
Receptionist: No, it can only be used once or twice daily.
Me: You mean once or twice weekly, don't you? xD
Receptionist: o_O Oops.. Yeah, once or twice daily. xD
Me: :D -smiling widely-

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: Go to Benta Berry Singapore Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/bentaberrysg, Like their page. Next, find your way to this place (Go into the building via the main entrance that is facing the road, next, turn left and you should see some lifts. Take them to the 15th storey.).

Generally recommended to take the lift instead of the stairs as it's on the 15th storey of the building. Oh, in the event you do not have an android phone or anything similar, best to print out your Facebook profile page (not your blog/website Facebook page!) and show it to the receptionist for redemption. Mug shot(s) will be taken!

Finally, the Oilum sample is here. I totally forgot it's existence, except for the Oilum post I've shared where the Oilum 3-piece travel kit is on sale at all Guardian outlets in Singapore.

Oilum Hydro-Rebalance Collagen Revitalizing Lotion (with Anti-Oxidant + Double UV Filter) 20ml.

Sounds excellent to be used in the morning before we all get toasted under the hot Singapore sun :D

WHERE TO REDEEM SAMPLE: Go to Oilum Singapore Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/OilumSG, Like their page. Next, click on the link that says Ger Your Sample, fill in your details. Mine came in roughly one month later, give and take. So, if you haven't seen it in your mailbox a month after requesting for it, go give Oilum Singapore a shout-out at their Facebook page, or even better, pm them your name and mailing address.

Why not like my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PuNiaosProductReviews to be informed of latest samples I found, which is duly updated? It will definitely save you the trouble of having to hunt down samples :)
